If this is your first time opening your account, you will also need the "Validation Number" that was sent to the e-mail address you used when you first signed up for your account. What are all those different sections and Buttons for?
When you access your Boomspeed.com Control Panel you will notice it is set up in sections, and they are

                            For a view of a Control Panel click    HERE
"My Files"--- this is a list of all the files and images you have uploaded to your account.
"Upload"--- this is where you will Upload all your files to your account.
"Directories"--- this is a list of the different Directories you have created.

"Preferences"--- this is where you can change your password and personal information.
"Forum"--- this is your personal Forum Board.
"Guestbook"--- this is your personal Guestbook, you can use it here or add it to your web site.

The first three sections, "My Files", "Upload", and "Directories", are the main work center for your account. And is where you will do most of your work. So we will discuss these first.
The first section, "My Files" is a list of all the images, documents, and files you have uploaded. To the left of the file name is a small circular tick box. This is what you use to select a file, to Edit it, Delete it, or Rename it. If the file is a html document or image file you can also click on the file name to view the file on the web. And it will open in another window.

            You will also notice four buttons on the bottom of your list of files called, "Edit", Delete", "Rename", and "Create". These are your main control buttons. To use them, first you select a file by clicking on the tick circle next to the file name, then click on the appropriate button to Delete or Rename a file, or to Edit an HTML file such as your index.html file or any other web pages you may have created.

            Or you can Create a new HTML Document (web page) by, first entering the document name (this name is what you want to call your new document) into the text field to the right of the Edit button, something like index.html or MyWebsite.html. Notice the .html extension!!! This must be there to create a web page. (also notice there are no spaces or unusual symbols such as & or % or #, in the file name). After you have entered the file name click on the Edit button, and your browser will refresh itself. Then scroll down to below the Directory section where you will see a text box with the basic html tags to create you new document.

            If you would like to view your document while you are working on it, you can click on the Save and keep working button on the bottom of the html editor. Your browser will refresh, and add your new document to your list of files in "My Files" section, where you can click on the file name. And it will open in a new window. When you are through viewing your new document, just close out the window, scroll down to the html editor and continue working. You can repeat this as many times as you need to until you are finished working on the document. (note: if you do this more then once, it does not add another file but will replace or update the first "save" you have made.)
When you are finished working on your new document, click on the Save button on the bottom of the html editor. And your browser will refresh again, close out the html editor, add the new document to your list of files. And then you are done.

            "Directories" (or folders, they are the same thing) here is where you can create different directories to keep and sort your files in. Note:--- You cannot move files from one directory to another here in the web interface control console. To do this you will need to use a FTP program. For more information on the FTP see our tutorial on our home page.

How do I upload files/pictures to my Boomspeed.com account?

In order to upload images you will need to have an image hosting account. If you do not already have one, please click "Here", to open your new image hosting account with Boomspeed.com.

When you first access your account, you will see a page (your control panel) that has a section for uploading images on it. (Please see the picture below.)

You can upload images using these steps:

1. Click on the browse button. This will open an small window to your PC. (To see what it looks like click HERE) Navigate through your computer's folders and click on the file that you wish to upload. Then click OPEN.
You can repeat this, as needed, until all ten of the browse fields have been used.

2. Click on the upload button. The file(s)/image(s) will be uploaded and your screen will be refreshed with a list of all of the files/images you have uploaded in the My Files section at the top of your page.

Note:---- Only .JPG and .GIF images are supported on the Internet. If you have uploaded a .GIF or .JPG image and it will not load, you may have spaces and/or unusual symbols in the file name. File names cannot have spaces or unusual symbols in the file name. (unusual symbols, with few exceptions are any symbol you have to use the shift key to get. Such as, #, %, &, *) Also, URL's are case sensitive. So if your file ends with a capital .JPG it will not work if you type in a lower case .jpg. Let me also caution you about image sizes, although there is no restrictions on an images size, images over 100 KB can and may cause you problems. It is best to keep your image at 60 KB or less.

What Type Of Files Are Allowed On Boomspeed.com?
What type of files are allowed on Boomspeed.com?

The only file type restrictions are:
*.exe
*.msi
*.cab
*.zip
*.vbs
*.old

*.mp*, *.avi and other music and audio files are allowed, but Boomspeed.com does bandwidth limiting based on the filesize so it throttles the max throughput and min throughput if the file is between certain sizes to certain speeds, though nothing is less than 128Kb/s.

Here is a statement by one of Boomspeed.com's owners........
BoomSpeed.com started as an image hosting and personal webhosting service, of which we mostly still are. As such, to ensure we don't become an illegal software & music distribution site, or adult video site, or what have you, and to ensure we don't use so much bandwidth we go out of business we have a bandwidth limit set based on the file size. What this means, specifically, is that based on the size of a file, our server will only send it out at a certain maximum speed per request.

1. Files less than 50kilobytes in size (50KB) have no speed limit.
2. Files between 50K and 100KB are maxed at 256Kilobits/s
3. Files between 100KB and 200KB are maxed at 192Kilobits/s
4. Files over 200KB in size are maxed at 128Kilobits/s.

Now to complicate matters even more, Each additional simultaneous request is split evenly among the number of requestors. So say you had 4 people hit your file that's 200KB. Each would get 64Kb/s in bandwidth . We have a guaranteed minimum of 64Kb/s to ensure some files don't slow down to a complete crawl. So if you have 20 people hit your one file, each would get a guaranteed minimum of 64Kb/s. If 1,000 people hit it, same thing.
Without the ability to do this, we'd have to give a maximum bytes per month per customer to ensure we don't go over. There are some users that use a LOT of bandwidth, and some that use a little. This, so far, has been the best mix to allow both to work together.
We don't do any conversion whatsoever on any file types as we're not really starved for bandwidth at present.
William

Note: This is not a monthly or weekly bandwidth restriction. Unlike many web hosting services (that restricts you maximum bandwidth.) Boomspeed.com does not put a restriction on bandwidth usage. The above pertains to throttling down large files sizes only.

How do I upload pictures to an auction?

A few ways of putting images in your auctions.

If you wish to use eBay's iPIX service, it's not necessary to use a hosting service to host your images because iPix will take the image directly off of your hard drive. You need only edit/downsize it prior to creating your auction listing. eBay has a step-by-step tutorial just for this:

When you click on the link below, on the right hand side of the page you will see a yellow box titled Resource Center under "Help" be sure to click on the How to add a photo link. There is a lot of good information there.

"eBay's Picture Service"

You may also want to check out eBay's tutorial on "Photo's", again there is a lot of good information to be had there.

eBay's Photo Tutorial

If you have one image to put into your auction, then place your url into the box labeled "Picture url (Web address)" which can be found in the "Your own Web hosting" area. This will trigger the and the icons.

http://YOUR.URL.HERE/pic1.jpg

Note: Only one image can go into the "Picture url (Web address)" box. You can put additional pictures in the description box using image tags as shown below.

Extra Hint: If you are using eBay's iPIX service, and want to center your image on the page. Add <center> to the end of the Description box.
You will not need a closing </center> tag here, as eBay's html coding will take care of that.
If you want more than one image, side by side, in your description box you must control the width.
Then the following code should work in the description area.

<img src=http://YOUR.URL.HERE/pic1.jpg width=300 hspace=10>
<img src=http://YOUR.URL.HERE/pic2.jpg width=300 hspace=10><p>

The hspace puts a little room on each side of the image.

Note: It's important to note that the and the icons will not appear on your listing without putting something into the Picture URL (Web address) box. You can do this without entering your actual image URL (and keep your images contained to your description area) by putting the following code into the picture URL (Web address) box.

http://pics.ebay.com/aw/pics/dot_clear

Using the above code leads eBay to 'think' that you have an image in the box, thus triggering the and the icons on your listing. Look at it this way...if you enter nothing into the 'Picture URL (Web address)' box (unless you are using iPIX), then your listing will appear on all eBay searches as having no accompanying photographs of your auction item. I, personally, wouldn't even click on your listing because I want to see what I am going to bid on. Pictures sell items...it's that simple!

If you don't want your images side by side then use:

<img src=http://YOUR.URL.HERE/pic1.jpg hspace=10><p>
<img src=http://YOUR.URL.HERE/pic2.jpg hspace=10><p>
<img src=http://YOUR.URL.HERE/pic3.jpg hspace=10><p>

FINAL NOTES:
It is wise to use only "jpg" or "gif" images on your auctions so that most browsers can recognize them.
A "bmp" file will not be recognized by some browsers. Avoid not having your image show up by sticking to either "jpg" or "gif" images.
If you use width=xxx (where xxx is the actual width), your auction will load much faster. Try to keep your images sized to accommodate most monitors...(remember that not everyone has a 36" monitor...would be nice, but back to reality)...and in doing so you will avoid making your potential bidders scroll from side to side to view your auction item. Something along the lines of 6" by 6" is usually plenty big, but you have a little leeway here. It's just a lot better to view an item in it's entirety without having to scroll up and down and side to side.
If you must show a huge picture of your item...please consider a "click to enlarge" feature that gives your bidder the option of looking at a huge image if they so desire.

Also...keeping your auction images to a size of 60 KB or less will have your pictures load faster. Remember that images sell auctions, but large images load slowly and sometimes these images will not even show up. This could send potential buyers to other auctions before getting a chance to see yours.

"Many great auctions have not sold, due to large, slow loading images."

How do I sort my files inyo different folders/directories?
            To start with you need to create the directory or directories (folders) you want to store your files in. To do this you first enter the name of your new directory into the text box next to the "Add" button, (see image below). Then click on the Add button. Your page will then refresh itself and your new directory will appear in the directory list.

            Now to add files to your new directory you click on the little circle next to the directory you want to add your files to, and then click on the "Change" button. That will open that directory. Then you can upload your files and they will be placed into that directory. To return to the main directory click on the text circle next to the "Back" directory and click on the Change button.

            Note: You cannot move files from one directory to another in the control console (this can only be done using a FTP client such as WS_FTP), so make sure you want the file in the directory you upload it to.

How do I delete files?
            You can only delete one file at a time in the control console. To do this you first click on the text circle next to the file you want to delete, then click on the "Delete" button. You page will refresh itself and the file will be gone.

            To delete a directory it must first be empty. After a directory is empty you click on the text circle next to the directory you want to remove, and click on the "Remove" button.

            Note: You can delete multiple files at a time using a FTP client.

What is a index.html page? And how do I make one?
An index.html page is more commonly referred to as a web page (or web site.) When you opened your image hosting account, you were given a certain amount of web space to upload and store your image files, sound files, and text files. This web space also has its own unique URL address, (Uniform Resource Locator) to access it from the WWW. Think of this space as a file box...where you keep all of your files. Anyone who has your URL (or web address) and enters it into their browser will see everything you have in your file box (web space.)

However, if you create an index.html page (or web page), instead of others seeing all of the various files you have stored in your image hosting account, they would see the web page (index.html page) you have created. This web page (index.html page) can be as simple as one page saying "Hello My Name Is bear", or it could have a Home Page with dozens of other pages linked off of it. In an instance such as that, it would be more commonly referred to as a web site.

OK, with all that said, let's now proceed to the actual creating of your index.html page (web page)..............

Web pages are structured into two parts, the HEAD and the BODY. Both of these are contained within the HTML element.....the element that tells your computer (or browser) that this is a HTML document.

The Head of your HTML document contains information about the document that is not displayed on your computer, such as its TITLE.

The BODY contains the body of the text and is where you will put the text, images, etc. to be displayed on your web page.

Elements allowed inside of the HEAD, such as your TITLE, are not allowed inside of the BODY, and vice versa.

Below is an example of a basic web page (index.html page) to give you an idea of how to lay out your page. You can copy & paste this into a blank Notepad and use it by replacing the text I have entered with your own information.

For a more in depth tutorial about making a web site see our tutorial on "How To Make A Web Site" on our home page.
Or click ------ HERE.

Example of a HTML Document   (or Web Page)

<html>
<head>
<title> This Is My First Web Page </title>
</head>

<body>

<center><h3><font color="blue"> Welcome To My New Web Page </h3></center>

<center>
This is where you would type in all of the neat stuff you <br>
want to put on your web page...the words you want to <br>
use to tell every body how smart you are, or the pictures <br>
of your sister's cat or your Aunt Gertrude's birthday party.
</center>
</font>

</body>
</html>

And this is what it would look like...........

Welcome To My New Web Page

This is where you would type in all of the neat stuff you
want to put on your web page...the words you want to use to
tell every body how smart you are, or the pictures
of your sister's cat or your Aunt Gertrude's birthday party.

That's basically all you need to know to create you web page. Just copy the above code into a text editor, like Notepad, replace my text with the information you want on your web page, save it to your hard drive, upload the file to your image hosting account and you are done.

For more detailed information on building a web page, index.html page or web site, please check out our tutorial on "How To Make a Web Site" on our Home Page.

How do I make changes to my Web Site?
How can I make a change to my web site?
Open up your site...right click...select "view source"...at the upper left of the notepad window, click "edit"...from the drop down menu click "select all"...right click and select "copy".

Go to your pc (usually from your start button...go to programs...mine is under accessories) and pull up a new Notepad...now with a right click, select "paste" and paste your website code into the notepad.

Make your changes...in the upper left hand corner of the notepad, click "file"...from the drop down menu click "save as".

When the little window comes up, type in whatever the name of your website exactly the same as it is in your Boomspeed.com file...ie - index.html or whatever.html on the first line where it says "file name"...now click on the 2nd little drop down menu and select "all files (*.*)" then click "SAVE". This will save your file to your hard drive..............
You should always have your file saved to your hard drive.

Go to your Boomspeed.com control console...to the upload area...click "browse"...find your website file on your hard drive and click on it and click "open"...window disappears...click "upload".

Your newly edited website should now be in your list of files...hopefully replacing the old one (this is why you name it exactly the same way...because a new upload of the same name will overwrite the old one).

You could actually edit from the control console...but it is infinitely wiser to keep a current version of your website on your hard drive...just in case.
