FTP TUTORIALS So you have come to a point in your cyber life where you need to transfer some files, folders, and/or pictures. Well you have come to the right place. Below you will find several links to some pretty good FTP tutorials. A couple were done by Boomershelp.com and a couple were done by others. The tutorials that were done by others are, in this author's opinion, some of the best on the web. However, some cover much more than one really needs to know to get started, so we have included a couple of our own tutorials that cover just the basics. We have two different tutorials of our own. The first will give you a quick overview of how to set up your FTP for Boomspeed.com. The second tutorial covers the same thing with slightly more detail. Using an FTP to transfer files around the internet sounds like a bit of trouble, doesn't it? Well, no need to worry, it's not as bad as it sounds. FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol", which is just another way to transfer files over the internet from one computer to another. (Remember the internet is nothing but a bunch of computers connected to each other.) Files are transfered several different ways. The two most common methods are "http", which stands for "Hyper Text Transfer Protocol" (which is used in your web browser) and "ftp", which stands for "File Transfer Protocol". Since you are here reading this, you already know how to use the "http". Now we are going to learn how to use an "ftp". To begin using FTP, you will want to get an FTP program that makes it easy to transfer and rename your files. My recommendation is WS_FTP from Ipswitch. You can download a copy of the WS_FTP at the Ipswitch Home Page or go directly to FTPplanet.com, these are the people who run the FTP for Ipswitch. They also have a very good forum board there where you can get answers to any FTP questions you may have. The WS_FTP is the program you will see in the images in our FTP tutorials. If you prefer to find one on your own, you can go to ZDnet's Shareware Library and search for "FTP Client" or "FTP program". Of course, your program may have a different appearance than the images we use here, but you should be able to get the general idea from these tutorials.
